Description
This is an R21 grant funded by NIAAA to examine drinking course in early- to mid- adolescence with a particular focus on describing sequencing of and progression through early drinking-related milestones (e.g., first drink, first time drunk, first experience of an alcohol-related problem). Specific aims of the study are to explore normative as well as inter- and intra-individual variation in progression through drinking milestones, and to examine the role of risk and protective factors on the early drinking course. The project will draw on three secondary datasets, including the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (AddHealth), the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth (NLSY97), and the Drug Abuse Treatment Outcome Study for Adolescents (DATOS-A).
